“PRE-MARITAL SEX – A PERVERSION OF SEXUALITY – 2”
SCRIPTURE READINGS: Genesis 2:21-25; 1Corinthians 6:16-20
In today’s devotion, we will be looking at four basic reasons why we need to place sex in its rightful context of marriage. It is important to note that, feelings are meant to be felt, and sexual feelings are no exception. But to accept these feelings do not mean to act upon them - sexual feelings are not to control us; we are to control them.
In addition to the fact that pre-marital sex dishonors God, by staying away from pre-marital sex, we do also position ourselves not to miss out on the blessing of the wedding night. There is something very special about a couple’s first time; since it is the time a spiritual union takes place under God’s own watch and blessing.
Again, we will be spiritually healthier. As we seek to gratify the desires of the flesh and live to please ourselves, we grow spiritually weak and our relationship with God gradually gets destroyed.
Thirdly, we will be emotionally healthier. This has to do with the baggage we carry into our marriage - memories from the past, emotional scars and unwanted mental images can defile our thoughts and make the marriage bed less pure. Certainly, God can forgive the past, but that doesn’t mean we are free from the baggage that can linger in our minds.
Finally, as noted in our previous devotion, it creates spiritual and emotional bond without commitment which subjects one to bitterness, deep emotional hurt and the feeling of being used.
